146 students, 47 nationalities ranging from 21 to 42 years of age. This is the new MA in Development Studies batch which participated in the official opening of the MA programme on 3 September.
In two groups (in order to comply with COVID-19 measures), the new students were welcomed to the International Institute of Social Studies by Rector, Professor Inge Hutter, Deputy Rector Education Affairs, Professor Karin Arts, ISS alumnus Dr Emmanuel Akwasi Adu-Ampong and Hilbert Bredemeijer, The Hague Alderman for Education, Sport and Outdoor Space.
146 students will participate in the programme this year, most of them already in The Hague and eager to get started on their studies.
Who are our students?
20 from Indonesia, 13 from India and 11 from the USA
Representing no less than 47 nationalities, the MA programme is once again a truly international programme.Â
The country with the highest number of students is Indonesia (20 students), followed by India (13), the USA (11), Colombia (9) and Ghana and the Netherlands with 7 each. Approximately 35% of the students come from Asia, 20% are from Africa, 20% from South America and another 22% from Europe and USA.
In terms of gender, 39 students identify as men and 107 as women, a pattern we have seen in earlier years.
Whatever their background, the students bring with them their own experiences and perspectives which they will be able to share both in the classroom and outside. As a heterogenous group they will broaden everyone's horizons and create new insights.
